Dear Neighbors,
On Monday, May 22, we finished our official legislative work at the Capitol for the year, ending on time and delivering new investments and policies to build a better Minnesota. I hope you'll be able to join me for my next community coffee hour to learn more and ask any questions you might have!

Alongside our DFL Senators, we are ending the gridlock and delivering on the promises we made to Minnesotans. You can read more about our final bills using our nonpartisan Session Daily stories: Veterans and Military Affairs [ [link removed] ], Housing [ [link removed] ], Higher Education [ [link removed] ], Legacy [ [link removed] ], Agriculture [ [link removed] ], Early Education [ [link removed] ], Public Safety and Judiciary [ [link removed] ], K-12 Education [ [link removed] ], Jobs and Labor [ [link removed] ], Environment and Energy [ [link removed] ], Commerce [ [link removed] ], State Government and Elections [ [link removed] ], Human Services [ [link removed] ], Taxes [ [link removed] ], Transportation [ [link removed] ], Health [ [link removed] ], Capital Investment [ [link removed] ], Cannabis [ [link removed] ], and Paid Family and Medical Leave [ [link removed] ].

I?d like to share my favorite highlights from a few of our budget bills.

*Human Services Budget*
The Human Services Budget [ [link removed] ] invests $2.9 billion over the next four years across the entire human services spectrum of need. This bill invests funding for long-term care, workforce, substance use and addiction, and provides pay increases for patient care assistants. The bill delivers funding for nursing homes, workforce retention in the long-term care industry, and a new program to help bring new Americans into the human services field. Finally, the Human Services Omnibus Bill establishes a new Department of Direct Care and Treatment.?
*I was glad to author a provision that expands Medicare dental coverage for Minnesotans. *Everyone deserves the dignity of comprehensive dental care. By expanding coverage, Minnesotans can catch health concerns early and avoid unnecessary ER visits to our state's hospitals for basic dental care. Yahoo! Finance wrote about my bill and you can read more here [ [link removed] ].

*Environment, Climate and Energy Budget*
The?Environment, Climate and Energy Budge [ [link removed] ]t invests $110 million in Minnesota?s outdoor recreation industry to build, repair, and maintain the state?s fish hatcheries, boat ramps and public water accesses, and state park facilities. The bill provides $100 million in climate resiliency grants to help communities prepare for extreme weather events and upgrade aging infrastructure. *It also includes a bill I* *authored to provide a critical investment within the Environment, Climate and Energy budget* [ [link removed] ] *to increase federal weatherization program funds in order to install weatherization measures in eligible low-income residences.?*
The bill also includes funding for the Upper Sioux Agency State Park land transfer and investments in drinking water protection and PFAS response. The bill also expands the popular Solar for Schools program to provide the opportunity for solar power to be added at schools in Greater Minnesota outside of the Xcel Energy service territory.?

*Investing in Local Infrastructure Improvements*
Not technically part of our state budget, but still a consequential bill for state investment, is our Capital Investment bill [ [link removed] ]. Otherwise known as a bonding bill, this was one of our last votes of the legislative session, and it delivered $2.6 billion in one-time investments in infrastructure projects to communities throughout the state. *For Apple Valley, we were able to secure $18.025 million for asset preservation and to reconstruct the Minnesota Zoo?s Animal Hospital, which predates the zoo and was built in 1976*. I?m also excited to share that we will be getting *$7 million for the construction of the Apple Valley Red Line 147th Street Station so transit users won?t have to cross multiple lanes of traffic on Cedar Avenue.?*
