This is how we break barriers

John,

Our nation’s first openly gay cabinet secretary got his start as a mayor.

Our nation’s first Black and Asian-American vice president got her start as a district attorney.

Our nation’s first Black president got his start as a state legislator.

To get diverse leaders at the top of the ballot, we need diversity down the ticket, too – because our government works better when every community has a seat at the table where decisions are made. That’s why Run for Something works tirelessly to help young, diverse, progressive candidates run for office and win.

And in celebration of Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re proud to be working with AAPI candidates across the country – many of whom would become the first AAPI leader to hold the elected office they’re running for!

But having our leadership reflect the communities they serve is incumbent upon each of us, which is why we’ve launched a poll to see where supporters like you stand. Please, submit your response before our 11:59 p.m. deadline. →

Why is it important to you that we have more diverse elected officials?

Run for Something is a grassroots-powered organization that recruits and empowers young progressives running for local office, with the goal of winning permanent power for decades to come. We've won over 1,000 elections by relying on support from grassroots donors pitching in a little to create big change. Please chip in now to help our candidates continue running and winning.
