Friends,
The Virgin Islands are home to many vibrant and diverse communities, and this May, we celebrate the rich heritage and culture of both the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Haitian communities as we mark AAPI and Haitian Heritage Month.
In Congress, I am proud to serve as co-chair of the Congressional Caribbean Caucus where we have been instrumental in delivering disaster relief to Haiti and stood up to the Trump Administration when they were failing to treat the people of Haiti humanely. I said it then and I will say it again, the Caribbean and AAPI communities cannot continue to be an afterthought!
Team, I hope you will join me in recognizing and honoring the contributions the AAPI and Haitian communities have made to our society, and to acknowledge the challenges and discrimination that they have faced. We must stand up to hate in all forms.
So this month and every month, let us commit ourselves to working towards a more equitable and just society where every person is valued and respected.
Thank you for joining me in honoring AAPI and Haitian Heritage Month.
Together,
Stacey Plaskett
