Irving, TX – It's been a busy week in Washington as my colleagues and I have continued to work to reach an agreement with Democrats on raising the debt ceiling in exchange for reasonable cuts in spending. If you were wondering how we reached this point, I encourage you to review the timeline below which details President Biden's inaction on debt limit negotiations.

Given the dual immigration and economic crises facing our nation, I joined nearly 60 of my colleagues in the Republican Study Committee to ensure that border security is top of mind during debt limit negotiations. You can read our letter here.

On Tuesday, I joined my Small Business Committee colleagues for a markup to advance six bipartisan bills that will help small business owners.

I also voted to rebuke the Biden Administration's Green New Deal policy that targets truckers, who already face tremendous challenges.

To kick things off on Wednesday morning, I participated in a tax panel and discussed my work on the Ways and Means Committee's Subcommittee on Taxation. I'm focused on lowering tax burdens and increasing global competitiveness.

Later in the day, I voted to overturn President Biden's student loan "forgiveness" plan, which would cost the average taxpayer $3,500 -- even if they never went to college.

I also voted to override President Biden's veto of a bipartisan bill that would stop the Administration from giving Chinese solar producers a free pass to circumvent tariffs.

I appreciated the opportunity to meet with a doctor from Texas to learn about ways to reduce the government-imposed administrative burden placed on physicians, which is limiting their face-to-face time with patients.

Unfortunately, President Biden’s open border policies have allowed fentanyl to flow into our communities, taking tens of thousands of lives. 

This week, I voted for the HALT Fentanyl Act which will permanently classify fentanyl as a Schedule I drug. Without this, CBP could lose its authority to seize fentanyl coming across the border.

On Thursday, I met with CPAs from North Texas to discuss upcoming tax legislation and solutions to improve our current tax code.

As part of my commitment to standing up for the sanctity of life, I joined dozens of my colleagues in voicing our strong opposition to the Biden Administration's plan to use taxpayer funds to promote abortion.

This week, I joined my Ways and Means Committee colleagues to introduce the Defending American Jobs and Investment Act.

The Biden Administration’s global tax surrender is putting China first and American workers and companies last, ceding sovereignty over our tax code. 

This bill is an important step to protect American workers and keep our tax code in the hands of Americans, not foreign adversaries.

This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is Maddy Sexton of Southlake Carroll, who maturely stepped up when her friend experienced a medical emergency. She immediately pulled her car over, called Southlake Fire and gave a perfect description, and then began assisting her friend.
