Friend — the captured Supreme Court has just severely limited the EPA’s ability to protect the nation’s wetlands under the Clean Water Act in a decision written by Justice Alito in the case of Sackett v. EPA.

The Court has just undone protections that have safeguarded our waters for over 50 years. It puts our drinking water and public health in direct jeopardy.

What happens next will depend on folks like you, Friend. Congress and state governments need to act immediately to prevent pollution and destruction of the wetlands that protect us from severe storms and flooding. The EPA also needs to move quickly to protect those waters to the broadest extent possible until we can expand and rebalance the extreme right-wing Court.

The actions Congress takes will come down to pressure. LCV and the Conservation Voters Movement are ready for this fight at both the national and state levels — but today, we’re asking for your help.

Since the Clean Water Act’s passage, polluters and their allies have tried to undermine the EPA’s ability to protect the waters our families depend on, and now this extremist Court has disregarded science, the law, and common sense to grant them their wish.

Everyone, no matter their race, zip code, or income, deserves access to clean water. That’s a tenet we should all support — but one that is completely undermined by the Court.

This decision will increase flooding and lead to more pollution. It will jeopardize the health of our communities — especially the health of communities of color and low-wealth communities who are disproportionately impacted by water pollution.
