My work in TX-31 and Congress   Howdy Texan – This Memorial Day weekend, we pause to reflect on the brave men and women that have laid down their life on behalf of our nation. May we never forget their sacrifice. I had a busy week working in Washington and wanted to take a moment to update you. ON THE DOCKET: The Future of Military Construction Introducing the READI Act Ending the Fentanyl Crisis Passport Assistance THE BRIEF: The Biden administration is set to end familial DNA testing at the US-Mexico border, which has been key to preventing the fraudulent entry of many illegal immigrants and mitigating child trafficking. Lawmakers are scrambling to negotiate a budget deal that will allow the U.S. to raise the debt ceiling and avoid defaulting for the first time in the country's history. Americans are drowning in credit card debt as chronic inflation makes the cost of everyday necessities more expensive. THE FUTURE OF MILITARY CONSTRUCTION I had a call with General Charles Hamilton to welcome him as the Commanding General of U.S. Army Materiel Command. We discussed the future of 3-D printing in upcoming military construction projects and ways that I can support him as the Chairman of the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee. Last summer, I toured a 3-D printed home in Central Texas, and I recognize the importance of this new technology for the future of all construction. INTRODUCING THE READI ACT I introduced the Resist Executive Amnesty on Defense Installations (READI) Act this week. If enacted, the READI Act will prohibit the housing of illegal immigrants on any military installation within the United States. President Biden's failures on the border shouldn't become the burden of our service members or their families. Read my press release here. ENDING THE FENTANYL CRISIS More Americans are dying from overdoses than ever before – with illicit fentanyl being the number one killer of 18–45-year-olds. I voted to pass the bipartisan HALT Fentanyl Act, which will give law enforcement the tools they need to seize these extremely lethal drugs, increase penalties on this dangerous substance, and research fentanyl-related substances so we can better understand its overall effects on people's health.
