MARCH ON is dedicated to increasing voter turnout and driving Democrats to the polls. Our data-driven solutions led the way for progressive victories in 2020 and 2022. Now, we're gearing up to stop Trump’s comeback in 2024.

Friend, happy Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month!

Each week of May, we’re highlighting an inspiring AAPI woman in politics who has made an impact on the fight for lasting progressive change.

For our final AAPI spotlight, we’re celebrating Mayor Michelle Wu of Boston, Massachusetts!

Mayor Wu won her election in November 2021 after a highly competitive primary race between many progressive candidates.

Upon her victory, Wu made history as the first woman, first person of color, and first Asian American to serve as the mayor of Boston.

One of Mayor Wu’s top priorities is enacting the Boston Green New Deal, a plan she proposed as a City Councilor. As Mayor, she has made critical progress by creating a green jobs program, emphasizing sustainability in public school renovations, and proposing a fossil fuels ban for most new buildings in Boston – which is now awaiting a ruling by the state legislature.

Prior to her term as Mayor, Wu served as a Boston City Councilor and was elected President of the City Council in her second term. She successfully led efforts to pass legislation expanding parental leave and prohibiting discrimination in healthcare.

Fun fact: Wu got her start in politics by working on the campaign of Senator Elizabeth Warren – her former law professor.

Friend, remember: Progressive leaders like Michelle Wu were elected thanks to the tireless activism and organizing by grassroots supporters like you!

Thank you for celebrating AAPI Heritage Month with us!
