Mayor Wu won her election in November 2021 after a highly competitive primary race between many progressive candidates.
Upon her victory, Wu made history as the first woman, first person of color, and first Asian American to serve as the mayor of Boston.
One of Mayor Wu’s top priorities is enacting the Boston Green New Deal, a plan she proposed as a City Councilor. As Mayor, she has made critical progress by creating a green jobs program, emphasizing sustainability in public school renovations, and proposing a fossil fuels ban for most new buildings in Boston – which is now awaiting a ruling by the state legislature.
