By now, you’ve probably heard that Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis announced he is running for President on Twitter (although it didn’t go so well after a few technical glitches…)

The truth is, Governor DeSantis is trying to make the “Florida model” the same throughout the rest of the nation - that means banning Black history in schools, targeting LGBTQ kids, and taking away women’s freedom to have an abortion.

I want to be very clear: I wasn’t afraid to stand up to Donald Trump, and I’m definitely not afraid to stand up to a bully like Ron DeSantis.

Only time will tell whether Ron DeSantis or any other Republican has what it takes to beat Donald Trump in a crowded GOP primary. I don’t have faith that any of these candidates are going to save our democracy - and if Ron DeSantis wins, it will be at the expense of Black and LGBTQ Americans who are most impacted by his extreme policies.

While the Republicans duke it out to beat Trump, we must prepare our defenses to make sure none of them ever steps foot in the White House again.
