A NOTE FROM CHRISSY

Happy May! As I write this, I’m looking at the blooming flowers in my yard and watching my dog Libby bask in the sun. Thanks for being on this journey with us - I’m excited to share with you some of what I and my team have been working on recently in Congress!

Promoting Peace at the G-7 Summit in Hiroshima
Earlier this year, I was part of a Congressional delegation to Japan during which we visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. I came home and asked our community to join me in making Origami cranes - a symbol of the desire for peace and a world free of nuclear war - to send to Hiroshima in time for the G-7 Summit this month. Newsweek published my op-ed on this project and I was pleased to see our community send 4,000 cranes to Hiroshima (4,000!).

Improving Mental Health Support for Veterans
As a veteran myself, I know the toll service can put on those in uniform and on those who love them. That’s why I helped introduce a bipartisan bill to create a mental health task force in the Department of Defense: This bill is a step toward ensuring a cohesive, coordinated effort to increase access to mental health programs for the troops.

Chairing the Task force on Economic Growth
Alongside Vice-Chair Rep. Nikema Williams (D-GA), I launched the New Democrat Coalition’s Economic Growth and Fiscal Responsibility Task Force earlier this month. We will be identifying, developing, and promoting policies that promote equitable growth and a sustainable federal balance sheet. It’s imperative that we raise our nation’s debt ceiling to honor our debts, yes. It’s also imperative that we make smart choices about spending and revenues to ensure the longer-term financial health and stability of our country. Stay tuned.

Moving, Hosting a Mental Health Fair, Holding Another Town Hall
After four years in Reading City Hall, we moved our office to a larger space at 201 Penn Street which will better enable us to serve the community. Our West Chester office is still at 709 Gay Street. Come visit! May is Mental Health Awareness Month and I am so proud of my team for hosting a Mental Health Awareness Fair and Forum to connect community resources with those who need them. Thanks to all who participated! Lastly, our 73rd town hall is happening on May 31 at 5PM and is focused on foreign policy and national security.

Supporting Small Businesses
From our pies to our people, Berks and Chester Counties have an abundance of exceptional small businesses. As an entrepreneur and former small business owner myself, I know how hard it can be to build and scale a business. That’s why I’m excited to reintroduce the Research Advancing to Market Production (RAMP) for Innovators Act! This bill would provide resources for small businesses to implement and commercialize new ideas to increase profitability.

As we approach the halfway point of 2023 (crazy, right?!), I couldn’t be more proud of the work our team has accomplished in the past five months – and I can’t wait to see what more we get to do for Pennyslvanians like you the rest of the year!

There’s work to be done.
