Memorial Day Weekend

Hello and happy Friday!

It’s been a crazy week in DC

Kicked off the week and headed back to DC to meet with Chris Wertz, President of the South Carolina Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, next with COL Mark Bortnem, the MCAS Beaufort Commanding Officer, then went on to speak at the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers Event on cannabis reform and legislation we’re working on.

On Tuesday we joined the Women's Veteran Task Force Roundtable to listen and learn about cancer-related health issues affecting our female veterans.

Honestly, we’re not sure how the CFO of Veterans Affairs has his job…To see why, look here.

This week we also met with South Carolina State Firefighters who visited our DC office to discuss their dedication to fire safety and emergency response. Our office appreciates their courage to protect our communities. Next was a meeting with the American Academy of Family Physicians to discuss the advancements in family medicine and their continued commitment to providing quality healthcare to our communities.

The Administration has had months to meet with Republicans on debt ceiling negotiations, now they are refusing to cut spending and stonewalling our negotiations. Also, the President recently decided to travel to Asia instead of focusing on the American people. Just today he has another trip planned to Camp David. Watch more here.

On Wednesday we had a special visitor come to our office - Gen. Mike D. Groshon, the Citadel’s mascot! He made lots of friends traveling around the Capitol, including some reporters! Look below for photos of his trip.

Thursday morning we traveled over to help clean the Vietnam Memorial in preparation for Memorial Day. Some tears were shed. Went straight to 38W/66 to wash the wall where Sgt. Marvin Gaines’ name is etched. He gave his young life for our nation serving with the men of 1st Cav A 2/5. It’s a story my father has difficulty talking about. He was one of dad’s closest friends in the war and his radio operator. God bless Sgt. Gaines and all those who died for us.

Monday is Memorial Day. On this #MemorialDay, we #RememberandHonor those we've lost while serving in the United States military - their selflessness and sacrifice to our nation will never go unnoticed. 🇺🇸

As a heads up, the submissions for the Congressional Art Competition have CLOSED! We will announce the competition's winner soon - so stay tuned!

Our office has recently started a new series called “Sunday Sunsets.” If you live in the district and want to show off your beautiful sunset picture, drop it here.

As you all may know, when we aren’t in DC, we are hosting one of our Lowcountry events such as Coffee or Cocktails With Your Congresswoman. To stay in the loop on when we hold our events, stay subscribed to our newsletter and follow our Eventbrite page!

We are always here to assist you with any issues or concerns. Please feel free to reach out to us.

It is an honor to serve each and every one of you.

Have a great weekend and happy Memorial Day weekend!

Sincerely,

Congresswoman Nancy Mace
