Dear John,

This week, I upheld my constitutional duty and voted to hold President Trump accountable for abusing his power and obstructing Congress. It was not a decision I made lightly, but I'm confident it was the correct one.

Despite clear evidence of these charges, Senate Republicans acquitted President Trump without hearing from relevant witnesses or reviewing key documents. The very next day, President Trump took to Twitter and to the East Room of the White House to call those who oppose his conduct "scum" and "liars" and "horrible people."

On Tuesday night, instead of using his annual State of the Union address to present his policy priorities to Congress, President Trump lied about his promises to protect coverage for those with pre-existing conditions and ignored some of the most pressing issues we're facing, including climate change and gun violence.

Now more than ever, we know just how critical this election is to the future of this country.

This election will go a long way toward determining what sort of country we want to be. Will we be a nation that lives up to our democratic values, fights for American families, and builds an economy that works for everyone? Or will we be a nation led by forces that divide us, who question the need for democratic institutions, and who prioritize personal loyalty over patriotic duty?

That's why it's so critical we take back both the White House and the Senate this November, but we need your help to do it.

If there were ever a time for you to step up, it's now. Can I count on you to stand with me in this fight to take back the Senate and the White House in 2020? Chip in today:
