Today’s news about Kim Reynolds signing some of the most hateful, unnecessary bills wasn’t shocking, but unsurprising. Naturally, she signed the bill in a private event without press on the Friday of a holiday weekend.

She knows that Iowans don’t support this legislation and know it won’t make Iowa a better place to live. She hopes that Iowans will forget that she and other Republicans passed this hateful legislation – but we won’t.

Republican politicians once again showed their obsession with attacking vulnerable kids and culture war issues rather than policies that will make our state stronger and more successful.
These new laws will lower educational standards, ban books, out trans kids, force educators to violate their professional ethics, and require “Don’t Say Gay” restrictions on school curriculum. All they do is try to solve imaginary problems with heavy-handed requirements that go against basic Iowa values like freedom, kindness, and respect.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Senate Democrats are committed to getting to work for everyday Iowans by addressing the workforce crisis, improving access to healthcare, strengthening our public schools, and making our communities safer.
