Dear John,
We only have a few days left for Congress to pass a debt ceiling deal and avoid catastrophic default. If the U.S. defaults on its obligations, families will see their Social Security payments delayed, interest rates skyrocket, and more. But extremists are still pushing for cuts to programs for millions of women and families before they agree to raise the debt ceiling.
Food assistance, health care, and housing are just a few of the programs extremists want to cut in order to push a deal through. We can’t let that happen! Contact your representatives today and tell them we need care, not cuts.

Subject: TAKE ACTION NOW: Tell Congress we need care, not cuts
Dear John,
Right now, Congress is negotiating a debt ceiling deal that could impact millions of people in this country.
At a time when costs for families are already skyrocketing, extremist politicians have a plan that would harm millions of women and families and push them into poverty by cutting essential programs. We can’t let this happen.
This has real consequences for people’s lives. Here are just some of the things at stake:
- Food assistance for over 2.5 million people
- Income assistance for the families of one million children in poverty
- Affordable housing for 800,000 families
- Health coverage for over 10 million people
- Child care for over 250,000 children
Let’s be clear: Congress has voted to increase the debt ceiling many times in the past. This is a manufactured crisis, and extremist politicians are using families and those who need support the most as political leverage. People’s livelihoods are NOT bargaining chips for Congress to raise the debt ceiling.
Time is running out. Contact your representatives today.
In solidarity,
Angel Padilla
