Podcast: Losses and Wins from Minnesota's Legislative Session

Tune in for our 2023 legislative recap—key bills that passed, bad bills that failed to pass, and a good bill that did pass! Plus, Grace shares two cultural wins that we can celebrate. After receiving pushback from customers and losing $9B in market value since launching their June Pride Collection, Target Corp. has stopped selling some items and moved their collection to the back of the store at some locations. In addition, Nebraska passes the “Let Them Grow” Act which protects children from mutilation and preborn babies from abortion - giving hope to those of us in other midwestern states. Get the facts, stand for truth!

Poll: DeSantis, Trump & Biden Are in the Race - Who is Your Pick?

While November 2024 seems a long way off, the landscape for the 2024 election is shaping up and it changed in a BIG way just a few days ago when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced he was officially a candidate for President.

DeSantis joins a widening field of other officially announced candidates including both Joe Biden and Donald Trump. It is important to realize that decisions being made by individuals at the national level today (at this very moment) will likely affect the nation through 2028!

Minnesota Family Council wants to know who YOUR pick is for 2024!

In the News: Moses Bratrud on KSTP Discussing Target Pride Controversy

Via KSTP-TV:

[...] [Target] declined to specify Wednesday which items it was removing but among the ones that garnered the most attention were “tuck friendly” women’s swimsuits that allow trans women who have not had gender-affirming operations to conceal their private parts. Designs by Abprallen, a London-based company that designs and sells occult- and satanic-themed LGBTQ+ clothing and accessories, have also created backlash.

“I think that Target is putting out products that are really offensive to people. I think what we’re seeing from this kerfuffle and from other recent events with other corporations is that people just don’t want to have their values trashed by mega-corporations,” said Moses Bratrud with Minnesota Family Council.

Institute for Family Studies: The Cost of Pot

By Aaron Renn - Institute for Family Studies

Pot is dangerous, especially to young people, causing all manner of psychiatric disorders. But America’s leadership class is committed to letting them smoke it anyway.

There’s been a major trend towards legalizing vice in America, including everything from legalizing gambling to repealing usury laws to allow payday loan stores. One manifestation of this trend has been marijuana legalization in various states. To be clear, pot is still illegal in America because it’s illegal at the federal level. But as it has been permitted at the state level in some places, the federal government has chosen to take a hands-off approach in those states, leaving pot de facto legal in growing parts of America. As with other social trends, there’s a feeling of inevitability about full legalization in the country.

There are a variety of rationales offered for why pot should be legal, but a common argument is that unlike “hard drugs,” marijuana is relatively harmless, certainly no worse than alcohol. Many adults today, and even some former presidents, smoked pot when younger with no apparent ill effect.

But just because some people can get away with smoking it doesn’t mean everyone can. And the pot today’s teenagers are smoking is not the same as the pot their parents smoked back in college. The concentrations of THC, its psychoactive chemical, in today’s marijuana are much higher today than in the past. Many teens also consume refined products, which can have THC levels of 90% or more.

First Liberty: The Freedoms We Enjoy Today Are Owed to Those Who Sacrificed All of Their Tomorrows

By Mike Berry - First Liberty Institute

The last Monday in May. For the majority of Americans, it marks the unofficial start of summer.  A three-day weekend. Open the pool. Fire up the grill. Memorial Day is upon us.

But for many, the last Monday in May is a day of somber remembrance. It is a day to honor the selfless service and sacrifice of those who gave the last full measure of devotion to this nation. As an Afghanistan veteran, I always pause on Memorial Day to remember one of my buddies, a fellow young Marine Corps officer who was taken from us far too soon.

Like many veterans, I am often thanked for my service. Even though I appreciate the sentiment, it does generate a bit of awkwardness. Saying “you’re welcome” just doesn’t seem appropriate. And I always felt the millions of Americans who gave their lives in service to our nation are the ones who really should be thanked. But as I reflect on Memorial Day and what it means, I believe the best way I can express my gratitude to those who made the ultimate sacrifice is to live a life worthy of their sacrifice.
