We need your urgent support, team. Last week, in a shameful turn of events, the Senate quickly and quietly voted to overturn President Biden’s public charge rule, which has been critical in reversing the harms of Trumps 2019 ‘wealth test’ and providing clarity to immigrant families on how public benefits could impact their immigration status.
The House is next to vote on this harmful measure that would undermine President Biden’s progress on public charge and reignite fear in our communities. We need your help sending a strong message to your representatives to VOTE NO on this resolution >>>
For years, NILC and a broad coalition of allies fought back against Trump’s cruel public charge ‘wealth test’ that threatened the health, nutrition, and housing of millions of families who call the U.S. home.
But President Biden reversed Trump’s inhumane rule in September 2022, seeking to undo this damage and create a new rule to reinstate and clarify longstanding policy and address socioeconomic and racial inequities.
This harmful measure on the House’s docket threatens the progress we have made on public charge, folks. If this resolution is signed into law, it would remove all the helpful clarifications in President Biden’s regulation, while making it much easier for a Republican president to reinstate Trump’s policies in the future.
That’s why we need your help sending an email to your representatives ahead of this critical vote. Repealing President Biden's public charge regulation would be a severe step in the wrong direction. We must emphasize to House members that everyone should have access to life-saving care and services.
This is the latest attempt in a tired right-wing political playbook meant to keep the American public divided and distracted while Republicans scapegoat immigrants and undermine the values to which this nation aspires — all the while they are holding the nation’s economy hostage, demanding severe cuts to public assistance.
Please join us in rejecting the repeal of President Biden's public charge rule and send an email to urge your House representatives to vote against this cruel measure. Friend, click here to send your message >>>
Together, we can ensure that the freedom to thrive is extended to all members of our society, including immigrant communities, who should have the opportunity to access health care, nutrition, and economic support programs.
Thank you for your help.
