Team,
Extreme Republicans in our target states are actively working to erase Black history and ban books about people of color and LGBTQ+ people:
- In Alabama, Republican lawmakers introduced legislation aiming to stop all lessons on slavery and racial injustice from being taught in the state’s public schools.
- West Virginia Republicans in the state Senate also passed a bill targeting lessons about race in school.
- Mississippi’s Republican governor signed a bill into law banning LGBTQ+ books from public school libraries.
- The Oklahoma Republican-led Senate passed a similar bill restricting what books are allowed in schools.
Our grantees are working year-round to combat GOP attempts to silence marginalized communities and prevent important lessons from being taught, but they need the support of this grassroots team to keep fighting. Can you pitch in today to help?
