Dear John,

On Monday, we will come together for Memorial Day – to honor the brave Americans who served our country and made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of our freedoms.

I am keeping all our service members and military families in my thoughts. Thank you for all that you do in service of our great nation.

This week, I was back in Washington for a full week of votes, hearings and meetings – and yesterday, I helped pass the HALT Fentanyl Act.

I hear from families who have lost loved ones to fentanyl every day – and that’s who I was thinking of when I cast my vote. We cannot play politics with an issue as serious as the fentanyl crisis – and I will keep working across the aisle to make progress and save lives.

By passing this bill, we are one step closer to unlocking additional resources for law enforcement to handle the unique challenges posed by the fentanyl crisis. No bill is perfect, but I’m pleased we were able to get this bill passed with strong support from both Republicans and Democrats.

Here's what else I was up to this week:

Supporting Minnesota’s rural letter carriers
Minnesota’s rural letter carriers keep our communities connected – delivering vital medications, important business documents and notes from loved ones. On Tuesday, I met with members of the Minnesota Rural Letter Carriers Association in DC to hear how Congress can work to support our carriers.

Working to improve mental health care in schools
As a mom and grandmother, there is nothing more important to me than our children’s wellbeing – and I know many parents across the South Metro share that same priority. That’s why I’m pushing to pass the bipartisan Improving Mental Health and Wellness in Schools Act to ensure that children living with mental health conditions and eating disorders are able to get the support they need at school.

Congratulating the Finishing Trades Institute of the Upper Midwest Class of 2023
While I was in DC for votes this week, I got the chance to virtually congratulate the Finishing Trades Institute of the Upper Midwest Class of 2023 on their graduation. I know that after years of honing their craft, each of these graduates possesses the knowledge, skills and experience needed to succeed – and I am excited to see all they accomplish in the years to come!

Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:

May is Mental Health Awareness Month – a time to recommit to our work to connect Americans with the mental health care and support they need to live full, healthy lives. That’s what I’m working on as a member of the bipartisan Mental Health Caucus.

I’m proud to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure that Americans have access to the care they deserve – we just took our official caucus photo!

Well, that’s the end of my update for you all!

I hope you’ll join me this weekend in reflecting on all that our brave service members have done to protect our country. Minnesota’s communities are better for their service.

Until next time,
