PROTECT DRINKING WATER AND WETLANDS

Supporter,

The ultra-conservative Supreme Court has just gutted Clean Water Act protections for tens of millions of acres of wetlands.

Their ruling in Sackett vs Environmental Protection Agency restricts the waters that are protected under the Clean Water Act. Now, corporations have carte blanche to poison drinking water for millions of Americans and pollute vital, life-sustaining wetlands across the country.

This is yet another potent reminder that our foundational environmental laws are only as strong as the Judges and Justices who uphold them.

The Sierra Club mobilizes millions of people just like you to help protect our land, air, water, and communities, including pressuring Senators to confirm judges who will uphold environmental laws and safeguard vital legislation. But we can't do it without your help:

Congress passed the Clean Water Act 50 years ago to protect people – not polluters or corporations. No other law does more to ensure all Americans can access clean drinking water by protecting the wetlands and tributaries feeding those sources.

This extreme ruling by a conservative five-vote majority of the Supreme Court eliminates Clean Water Act protections for millions of acres of wetlands in the US – a staggering assault that will put wildlife and wild places reliant on those wetlands at severe risk.

Even more alarming? This ruling imperils the safety of drinking water for millions of Americans whose drinking water sources are downstream of wetlands that are no longer protected following the Court's decision.

But we cannot sit on the sidelines: with your generous support, the Sierra Club will redouble all efforts to protect these vulnerable streams and wetlands, mobilize our grassroots support, and push the Senate to fill the numerous vacancies on Federal courts with judges who uphold the spirit of our bedrock environmental laws. But to do all that, we need you, Supporter.

P.S. This ruling lets polluters dump chemicals into the very water we drink, and the wetlands that sustain wildlife and wild places across the country.
