May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month

Did you know that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are the fastest growing racial group in the United States, and are predicted to be the nation’s largest immigrant group in 50 years? Far from a monolith, the AAPI community is as diverse as its contributions to America with more than 50 ethnic groups and leaders in arts, music, politics, sports and nearly every facet of our broader American culture. 

Unfortunately, the racial wealth divide in this country means that many Asian Americans can fall victim to predatory lending practices, as data in our Racial Wealth Snapshot: Asian Americans showed. We also found that some AAPI communities experienced differences in treatment and higher costs when obtaining a mortgage. With AAPI Americans representing nearly 6% of the US population, these disparities have negative implications for our entire economy. 

NCRC’s independent, nonprofit research, publishing, investigations, training, advocacy, programs, and more, root out these disparities and work to eliminate them.
