On behalf of NJDSC, I want to wish everyone a joyful Memorial Day weekend filled with gratitude and reflection. As we spend this time with family and friends, we must also remember to reflect upon the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to this country. Our deepest gratitude to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

As part of the Murphy Administration’s ongoing efforts to address the growing mental health crisis, Governor Murphy announced a partnership with Uwill – a mental health and wellness platform that will support students at 44 institutions of higher education throughout New Jersey. Beginning this month, this first-in-the-nation partnership will provide 24/7 access to free virtual mental health services throughout the entire year for students enrolled in one of the eligible institutions that have opted into this program.
“With the challenges these past few years have presented, young people around New Jersey and the nation are facing a mental health crisis like never before. It is incumbent upon us to do everything in our power to provide young people with access to the support they need, which is something my Administration will continue to prioritize,” said Governor Murphy. “Making teletherapy services available to countless college students on campuses throughout our state is a key component of our ongoing efforts to address the mental health needs of our young people and promote safe and inclusive learning environments in New Jersey.”
Governor Murphy continues to take the mental health crisis in our country seriously and make strategic investments aimed at bolstering mental health services and initiatives. He is prioritizing mental well-being as a fundamental aspect of public health,expanding access to affordable mental health care, strengthening community-based programs, and enhancing early intervention and prevention efforts.
Virtual mental health and wellness support will be available from Uwill’s network of providers all hours of the day, 365 days a year, at no cost to students or the institution of higher education itself. |

Sikandar Khan is an elected ward leader for Paterson, New Jersey. He has extensive experience serving this country, with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, and his community – including as Commissioner to the Paterson Board of Adjustment, Coordinator to Passaic County Workforce, and currently, serving as the Senior Economic Development Representative to the City of Paterson. Sikandar also serves as the Executive Director to Global Emergency response and Assistance. He oversees the overall strategic direction of the organization and is Co-Chair to the NJDSC Muslim Caucus.

On Thursday, President Biden announced the most ambitious and comprehensive U.S. government-led effort to combat antisemitism in history with over 100 new actions that Executive Branch agencies have committed to take to counter antisemitism—all of which will be completed within a year.
The United States has recently experienced an alarming increase in antisemitic incidents, among other acts of hatred. American Jews account for 2.4% of the U.S. population, but they are the victims of 63% of reported religiously motivated hate crimes, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The Biden-Harris Administration’s approach will address four key pillars:

Increase awareness and understanding of antisemitism, including its threat to America, and broaden appreciation of Jewish American heritage
- Improve safety and security for Jewish communities
- Reverse the normalization of antisemitism and counter antisemitic discrimination

Build cross-community solidarity and collective action to counter hate

I applaud President Biden’s unwavering commitment to combating anti-semitic violence and addressing the alarming rise in hate crimes we’ve seen across the country. His administration's proactive measures to strengthen law enforcement and enhance security for at-risk communities are commendable steps and a testament to President Biden’s dedication to protecting the rights and dignity of all Americans.
