Oklahoma,
I hope you’re having a great week. I’ve certainly had a great one as I’ve spent it right here in our state. It was a pleasure to speak with so many of you about the issues closest to our communities – and even have some fun, too! Let’s get right to it. If this email was forwarded to you, you can subscribe to my weekly e-newsletter HERE.
It was great to be back at McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP) this week with my daughter Ivy! For 80 years, MCAAP has been performing mission ready operations to power our Armed Forces. From missile ammunition and munitions manufacturing to shipment and disposal, MCAAP plays a vital role in supporting U.S. military capabilities. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I’m working alongside installation leadership to ensure our world-class service members and Army civilians have the tools they need to maintain the greatest fighting force in the world.

During a meeting earlier this year, I was invited to attend the Oklahoma Special Olympics Summer Games by athletes Jayden and Houston. Without hesitation, I gladly accepted their kind invitation and this weekend I got the opportunity to attend their 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Stillwater. It was a joy to cheer on all of the incredible athletes who have put time and dedication into their sport. I’ve seen firsthand how the athletic competitions put on by the Special Olympics can truly change the lives of those with intellectual disabilities – and provide them with tons of fun! Congratulations to all the Special Olympics athletes who participated and thank you to all the volunteers who made this event possible and Oklahoma State University for hosting.

Earlier this week, I also visited Port Muskogee and had the pleasure of meeting with Director Kimbra Scott, Mayor Marlon Coleman, and business and community leaders to discuss the exciting future of economic development in Muskogee. Ranked as the fifth county in Oklahoma for capital investment, Muskogee is a thriving hub with the Port of Muskogee at its core, offering swift market access within a business-friendly environment. It is a hidden gem brimming with potential, and with collaboration between local industries and community leaders, we can expect great economic development for Green Country.

For a lot of us in Oklahoma, this weekend will be spent having fun and maybe even firing up the barbecue grill or sitting down for a picnic. But before you start your long weekend with family and friends, let’s not forget what this holiday is really about – honoring those who lost their lives defending this great nation. On Memorial Day, I hope we all take a moment to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending the freedoms we hold dear. America is the land of the free because of the brave. We will never forget these heroes.
