Joining the slate of GOP extremists running for our nation’s top executive office, Ron DeSantis, Florida’s backward Governor, declared his bid for the presidency in a bizarre Twitter announcement complete with technical difficulties and riddled with "culture war" non-issues. With each additional GOP bid announcement, we see just how seriously the Republicans are about coming after the White House, and Ron DeSantis’s run just confirms that the stakes are higher than ever.
If we are going to stand any chance against DeSantis, Donald Trump, Tim Scott, or the rest of the GOP extremists, we have to take action NOW! Donate to the Democratic Party of New Mexico now to ensure we have the resources and infrastructure to take on these prominent national embarrassments and their divisive rhetoric.
In his wacky announcement, DeSantis confirmed what most of us already know: Ron is willing to pick fights with cartoon characters, ban books, and undermine fundamental rights like abortion and gender-affirming care. As president, he would take the same chaotic and harmful approach he took when he began destroying Florida from the inside-out, like passing his signature “Don’t Say Gay” bill, his extreme abortion ban, or his willingness to pick fights with the ‘happiest place on Earth’ simply for being inclusive of our fellow members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
America deserves a president who will unite us, not divide us. Who will propel us into the future, not send us back centuries. Who will support our weakest, not push them down further. In other words, “Meatball Ron,” as Trump called him, is not a leader in any sense, and allowing him to take hold of America’s highest office will only result in disaster after disaster. It’s unfortunate that he was able to take the reins in Florida, but it doesn’t mean we have to make the same mistake on the national level.
Their base is strong and more than willing to donate loads of cash to support GOP politicians’ prejudiced and discriminatory governance. New Mexico will be a key state that Republicans will want to focus on, and we need to be prepared. We can’t do this alone– make a contribution today to the NM Democrats and have peace of mind that you are doing YOUR part to curb the possibility of a destructive 4 years of a divisive dolt like DeSantis.
