 Team, Right now, one in four Illinoisans lives in a food desert. Food deserts occur when residents in a community don’t have access to healthy, affordable fresh food. And here in Illinois, these food deserts are occurring across the state, in both our urban and rural communities. Leaders in Illinois know our communities deserve better, and they’re not only raising awareness in our government, but they’re actively pursuing solutions to eliminate food deserts no matter your zip code. Just last week, Nikki and fellow Illinois Congressman Jonathan Jackson penned a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ask for increased funding for our healthy food security programs to ensure every family has access to quality food choices. Nikki continues to be on the frontlines, fighting for each Illinoisan every day that she’s in office.
