*Gov. Evers Orders Flags to Half-Staff for Memorial Day*   MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order #203 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff on Mon., May 29, 2023, as the state and nation recognize Memorial Day to honor and remember the nation’s fallen heroes, as well as the family members and loved ones they left behind.

Executive Order #203 will be in effect from sunrise to 12 p.m. on Mon., May 29, 2023, and is available here [ [link removed] ].

In addition, the governor shared a video message with Wisconsinites recognizing Memorial Day and honoring service members. The governor’s video message is available here [ [link removed] ], and a transcript of the message is available below.

"Hey there, folks. Governor Tony Evers here."

"Today, we honor and remember those brave and selfless service members, soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen who laid down their lives in defense of our nation and our shared values."

"Today, we also remember and offer our support to the family members and loved ones they left behind."

"On behalf of our state, we share our deepest condolences and gratitude for your loved one’s service and for your sacrifice as loved ones, also."

"Our service members have fought in the trenches of the battlefields in Europe in World War I and met the call to defeat evil during World War II."

"They braved the elements fighting in Korea and in Vietnam and fought for 20 years in the deserts of the Middle East and Afghanistan."

"And they’ve served bravely in conflicts in Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, the Persian Gulf, Somalia, and during Joint UN Peacekeeping Missions."

"We know that throughout these conflicts, our armed forces have fought to protect and secure our freedoms as well as the freedoms of countless others."

"As we recognize this day, we remain committed to doing our part to honor the contributions and sacrifices of those who gave their lives defending the freedoms and values we hold dear."

"And we resolve ourselves to make sure their service, their sacrifice, and their stories are never forgotten."

"Thank you."   An online version of this release is available here [ [link removed] ].
