This is urgent -- California law protects reproductive freedom by requiring that private insurance plans cover abortions. The Trump administration just gave California 30 days to change its laws or else it would start pulling funding to the state.
Trump is making it easier for insurance companies to get away with not covering reproductive care. At the same time, he’s making it harder for insurers that want to provide abortion coverage to do so. His administration unveiled a new billing rule in December designed to make it more expensive for private insurers to cover abortions.
According to The Washington Post, the Trump administration wants their threats against Californians to “serve as a warning to other states” who might get in the way of Trump’s far-right agenda.
