Rahima's* family was going hungry after crisis hit Afghanistan. Desperate to save their six kids, her parents arranged her engagement to an older man. Not long after, the 17-year-old dropped out of school and stopped talking to friends.
"I was lost, and there was pressure from every side," she remembers. "Now, slowly I'm improving."
Hugs didn't heal Rahima's heartache, and time didn't treat her trauma. Mental health support did.
But less than 1% of the global health budget is dedicated to it. That means countless kids are coping with anxiety, depression and unthinkable trauma on their own.
