Weekly InSight
This week, InSight Crime interviews Piotr Chomczyński, a Polish academic who has studied the recruitment of young people by Mexican criminal organizations. Chomczyński explains how early exposure to organized crime by young people, especially in marginalized areas, made it seem like a natural step for them to join criminal groups later in life.

We also review the testimony given by former AUC paramilitary commander Salvatore Mancuso to Colombia’s transitional justice system, during which he claimed that paramilitary forces provided support to former Colombian presidents. We examine the lack of progress between Colombia’s government and the ELN following six months of peace talks. We also explain how an alliance between Mexico’s CJNG and Familia Michoacana led to an increase in the use of drone attacks that displaced communities in the state of Guerrero, and analyze how Guatemalan military members assisted CJNG in trafficking cocaine.
