It’s been a month since violence broke out in Sudan, and the situation has continued to deteriorate for women, girls, and all other Sudanese people trapped in this emergency.

"They saw everything, the gunfire was falling on us at home ... they saw horrible scenes," Sanaa — a mother to two daughters — told Reuters. "She still screams at night and cries out to me, 'why are these people coming to kill us?' ”

War has triggered a nationwide closure of schools and educational institutions. Children have post-traumatic stress disorder — conditioned to run for cover at the sound of warplanes flying overhead.

UNFPA is on the ground working to ensure that women and girls are kept safe from harm — but more resources are urgently needed as this heartbreaking tragedy impacts more lives.

Rush in an emergency gift to support women and girls living through war in Sudan and around the world? We need to scale up our support to ensure no woman or girl is left behind in this crisis. [[link removed]]

The stories being reported out of Sudan are devastating, friend:

Nearly 1 million people, including hundreds of thousands of women and children, have become displaced.

A maternity hospital was attacked in Khartoum, depriving women and families of critical reproductive care.

Dozens of cases of rape and sexual violence against women and girls by soldiers have been reported — which is likely being underreported.

One pregnant woman was fatally shot in military crossfire on the way to deliver her baby.

219,000 pregnant women in Khartoum and hundreds of thousands of women and girls across Sudan could face similar tragedies unless we act now.

As needs grow by the day, your support is urgently needed in crisis areas like Sudan. Before May ends, you have the rare opportunity to DOUBLE your impact thanks to generous donors matching up to $25,000.

Double the impact of the lifesaving care you’re delivering to women and girls in Sudan and beyond by making an emergency gift today: [[link removed]]

Thank you for being there for women and girls. We cannot look away as the situation worsens in Sudan.
