Hello comrades! We have a big weekend coming up of active social justice action, important chapter business, and socialist socializing. Here's what's going on in the chapter:
THIS SATURDAY, May 27th at 330 PM: Louisiana March for LGBTQ Youth in BATON ROUGE
We’re calling on our chapter members to march alongside our comrades from Real Name Campaign, who are leading a march and rally against the Louisiana State Legislature's slate of hateful, violent bills targeting trans and queer people and youth. One awful anti-trans bill has just failed in the Senate, but the fight is far from over.
"Before a single anti-LGBTQ, anti-child bill lands on his desk, we need to put public pressure on the Governor to use his veto power now. We also need to send a strong message to legislators who might already be thinking of orchestrating another bullsh*t veto override session. We're taking to the streets again to defend LGBTQ youth, and we want to see folks from every part of Louisiana there with us."
Read the full demands from Real Name Campaign here. Sign up to volunteer at the march here.
SUNDAY, May 28th, 12 noon: Chapter General Meeting and planning for DSA NATIONAL CONVENTION
This is a big one, folks. We need as many comrades to attend as possible to make quorum and pass essential business items, including a resolution to nominate comrade John Lewis to NPC that's necessary for him to run per national convention rules, as well as vote to authorize early bird registration funding for our convention delegates! Join us at Parish Hall or on Zoom, see the agenda here, and if you can’t attend, please designate or request a proxy to vote in your stead (and help us count towards quorum) by emailing [email protected].
SUNDAY, post GM: Chapter Crawfish Boil and Social! It’s not all Robert’s Rules, all the time. Join us immediately following the GM for a chapter crawfish boil — check on Slack for address (or DM a comrade!). Hang out, eat good food, paint a banner, and get to know your comrades in the New Orleans DSA community.
Hope to see you there!
Solidarity,
DSA New Orleans Local Council

New to DSA? Check out our chapter's new member resources here. If you've got any questions about how to get involved or the work our chapter is doing, give us a shout at [email protected].
Not yet a member? The most important tool that the working class has is organization. We're strong when we fight together. We have to build a durable, mass political organization to wield the kind of power we need to win real change in our society. If you aren't a dues-paying member of DSA yet, join today!
