Last week, we reached out with an update that the EPA is moving forward on a plan to directly limit carbon emissions from power plants
for the first time ever.
Things are moving quickly. In response, Sen. Joe Manchin has threatened a total block of all EPA nominees unless President Biden drops the proposal. The coal industry has already come out
hard against any kind of emissions limits from power plants.
Here’s the thing: the plan isn’t final yet. The EPA is still taking input. And the pressure that they are getting from industry groups is intense — and could
completely derail the effort if it goes unanswered by our movement.
Friend, since we first reached out, folks from all over the country have been pitching in to support LCV’s campaign — some making small donations like $5, and many for the first time ever. Many have started monthly gifts, which truly has
such a big impact right now. Every bit helps, and so we’re asking:
Please, contribute to our Annual Fund today — your gift powers our campaign to push the EPA to curb climate-harming emissions from fossil-fueled power plants. Support from environmentalists like you, even just $5, will be critical to winning the strongest protections possible.
Friend — check your contribution status below — do we have this right?
I really hope we’ll hear from you — because this is a goal that matters. How much we raise will directly impact our campaign to secure and
strengthen the first-ever direct limits on carbon pollution from power plants.
The stakes here are huge: fossil-fueled power plants are one of our nation’s largest sources of climate and other pollution. But this isn’t the only fight we’re engaged in right now.
As you read this, House and White House negotiators are ALSO considering harmful changes to permitting policies — these are the rules that dictate how and when major fossil fuel projects get approved and who gets to give input.
If these negotiations go the wrong way, it could mean a green light to dangerous pipeline projects, harmful oil and gas drilling, and more.
AND a fossil-fueled bill from Sen. Joe Manchin could be inserted as a “compromise.” If this bill were to move forward as proposed, it would be a rubber-stamp for fossil fuel development and other polluting projects, without comprehensive assessment of environmental impact, public comment, or people’s day in court.
Friend — this could be the most important moment for our environment this year. If the environmental movement shows up in a major way, we can win the fight on permitting — AND secure the first-ever direct limits on power plant climate pollution.
But if we fail, these plants will continue to be allowed to spew unlimited carbon pollution, putting people’s health and future at risk to protect polluter profits — all while rules get rewritten to further favor Big Oil and Dirty Coal.
Bottom line: we really need to hear from you, Friend:
Can we count on your support? We need your help to strengthen and finally win protections against harmful power plant emissions. Even $5 can have an impact — make your gift to LCV’s Annual Fund right now >>
We can win these fights — I promise — but it’s going to take all of us taking action together. Thanks for all that you do to fight for a better future for our Earth, Friend.
Onward,
