Me? I ask hard questions.
In my work as the #Fight4HER organizer in New Hampshire, I get to meet lots of the candidates. And every time, I ask them about the Helms Amendment.
For 47 years, the Helms Amendment has barred foreign assistance funds from being used to pay for abortions for any reason--even in cases of rape, incest, or threat to the pregnant person's life. It is a terrible law that has always been solely about promoting ideology, not health. And it has deadly consequences for people in developing countries.

Thankfully, most of the Democratic candidates have voiced support for repealing the Helms Amendment. Joe Biden gave his word at an event here in New Hampshire last month. And my colleague Brittany in Phoenix just spoke with Mike Bloomberg and got him on record opposing it too!
This is a big deal! But it didn't happen by chance.
For the last year, #Fight4HER organizers and volunteers have been going to events to meet candidates and asking them their stance on Helms. We tell them that voters want to know what they'll do about the 31,000 women who die from unsafe abortions each year. And we record their answers.
This has a lasting impact. By holding candidates accountable, we make sure that if and when they get into office, they repeal the Trump administration's deadly policies on reproductive health.
