The Fight To Gain Ballot Access
Despite our efforts, the state changed the rules regarding ballot access and the process of becoming a major party in Minnesota. Prior to this change, we would've had to only reach 5% on a statewide race to gain ballot access for the following two elections. With the recent change, that number has increased to 8%. In addition, a party must now have a committee and convention in at least 45 counties/election districts, and all 8 congressional districts.
The alternative is to run numerous candidates, or get a petition signed by 5% of the people who voted in the previous general statewide election.
We have decided to retain a lawyer and file suit against the state on two fronts.
- The first is the number of people who would have to sign a petition to become a major party. The US Supreme court has previously ruled that anyone over 1% would be too high, and it has not been challenged in Minnesota. We will attempt to do so.
- We are also challenging the entire HF 1830, which was the vehicle they used to pass these election changes to major party qualifications on the grounds that it is a multi-topic bill. The Minnesota constitution states that all bills must be single topic, and the topic must be stated in the bill. (Minnesota Constitution, Article 4 Section 17).
The Constitutional Republic Party is about fighting for what we believe in; to limit the scope of government, and protect our freedoms, both of which are under attach by the recent DFL trifecta.
To eliminate either party from having excessive power, we need third parties on the ballot.
We need you in this fight. We need your time, effort, and money to finance the party.
If you can donate, please do. If you are interested in joining us, or have questions about starting a branch of the party in your county or state, please reach out.
We can win this fight together! As always, thank you for your support.
