John, when we launched our campaign to defeat Ted Cruz, I knew I was coming in as the underdog and that a lot of people were saying a Democrat can't win in Texas. Heck, the experts at Roll Call rated this race "Solid Republican."
It's not the first time in my life the odds have been stacked against me – not a lot of people expected me to come out of Dallas public schools with a full football scholarship to Baylor University or to play in the NFL. Few people thought I'd unseat an 11-term GOP incumbent to win a seat in Congress representing the same community where I was born and raised.
And I don't think anyone (even me!) expected our campaign to raise more in our first 36 hours than Ted Cruz did in the first three months of 2023 – all thanks to grassroots supporters like you.
Now, just a few weeks later, the experts are singing a different tune: Roll Call just updated their ranking, officially making Texas a "Battleground," and now, I'm asking you to help me keep up this incredible momentum.
Every time I beat the odds, it's because I worked hard and had a lot of help along the way. I'm ready to do the work – to do whatever it takes to beat Ted Cruz and go to bat for Texans every single day in the Senate – but I need your help to get there.
