“SC Senate votes to send 6-week abortion ban bill to governor. Court
challenge coming” - The State
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
South Carolina Republicans just voted to BAN abortion at 6 weeks, before
most women know they’re pregnant.
All five women in the state Senate — even the Republicans — voted against
it.
But a coalition of anti-abortion extremist men voted to push through
anyway.
John, these
legislators in South Carolina don’t care about the will of the people or
protecting patients in their state. They don’t care that voters have
REJECTED anti-abortion ballot measures over and over.
They only care about enacting their radical agenda, and they’ll happily do
it through gerrymandered legislatures and stacked courts.
And it won’t just hurt women in South Carolina. With this ban, women in
the southeast are left with vanishingly little access to reproductive
health care options.
We wrote an open letter to the South Carolina legislators who voted for
this ban. Read it below, then sign on to show your support.
ATTN: South Carolina Legislative Republicans
A six-week abortion ban is effectively a total revocation of the right to
make reproductive choices. Legislation like this is already doing
immeasurable harm to patients in states across the country — and that’s what
you can expect to happen in South Carolina.
Women will suffer complications from untreated miscarriages. Doctors will
flee your state in droves.
South Carolinians will be harmed because you care more about your extremist
politics than doing what’s right for your people.
Your goal was never to “protect life.” It is to control our bodies.
You should know: We won’t go back. We’ll fight back.
I’m signing this letter to voice my ongoing commitment to opposing any
rollback of our human right to reproductive freedom.
