New Yorkers Deserve Lower Energy Bills
Help Us Make It Happen!

Fellow New Yorkers:

While we have seen nothing but rate hikes from our utilities, we have a chance to pass legislation that will reduce energy bills – and help combat climate change!

The NY HEAT Act will cap energy bills at 6 percent of household income for low- and middle-income families, saving them up to $75 per month. It will also get rid of the 100-foot rule that lets utility companies force you to pay for unnecessary gas hookups, for which they collect around $200 million from ratepayers each year.

The State Senate has already passed the NY HEAT Act, but the State Assembly has yet to even bring it to a vote – with only a few days left to pass it! That’s why we need your help to get Speaker of the New York State Assembly Carl Heastie to pass NY HEAT this week.

TAKE ACTION TODAY:
Call your State Assembly member (use this online form to get their name and number) today and ask them to urge Speaker Heastie (pronounced hasty) to pass the NY HEAT Act. And while you have the phone in hand, call Speaker Heastie directly at 518-455-3791 and let him know that you want to see the Assembly pass the NY HEAT Act!

If it helps, you can say something along the lines of this:

Hello, Assembly member. I am (state your name) and I am with WE ACT for Environmental Justice.

I’m calling today to ask you to urge Speaker Heastie to pass the NY HEAT Act. Our community deserves clean, affordable energy, and the NY HEAT Act will lower our energy bills and put an end to unnecessary gas hookups.

So, please, I urge you to tell the Speaker to pass this bill and provide New Yorkers the relief they need. Thank you!

Thank you for taking this action. And be sure to share this with friends and family. You deserve clean, affordable energy - and so do they!
