After that decision, I introduced the Protecting Reproductive Freedom Act, H.R. 2573, with my fellow Future Forum Rep. Pat Ryan to reaffirm that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration appropriately approved, and has appropriately regulated, mifepristone. The reason I’m able to lead the fight to protect abortion rights in Congress is because of the progress we’ve made to win critical swing seats in places like Texas. In 2018, I became the first Democrat in more than 50 years and the first woman ever to represent my district in Houston, a long-time Republican stronghold. In 2020, I held the seat after a tough race with one of the NRCC’s best-funded challengers.
