Boozhoo John,
Our relationship with water is one of respect and reciprocity: the water gives of itself without fail, and we bear the responsibility to protect this sacred source of all living things.
I hope you’ll join me this weekend, on May 27, 28, and 29, for the Creation Water Walk at Menekaunee Harbor Park. This Indigenous-led water walk is an important moment for us to stand in solidarity and honor the water walkers who came before us, particularly Josephine Mandamin (Biidaasega-ba) and the Grand Chief of the Three Fires Midewiwin Lodge, Eddie Benton Sr. (Bawdwaywidun Banaise-ba).
Our waters are being threatened and communities who rely on the waters are facing serious health risks. The Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, for instance, have been on the front lines in the fight against the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline and are currently dealing with massive flooding.
Our waters need us – and Wisconsin communities need us. Please join me this weekend and walk for the water.
