We knew a GOP majority in the House would be a disaster, now we’re living with the consequences.

Republicans have turned the so-called “debt” ceiling talks into a ploy to negotiate away American livelihoods; and they’re holding all of us hostage. (Don’t take my word for it, Matt Gaetz literally said the Republicans “don’t feel like we should negotiate with our hostage,” the other day.)

How did we get to this point? I’ll tell you.

After handing out trillions of dollars in tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans and blowing up the deficit to unprecedented levels as a result, they now have the absolute audacity to say that Democrats are fiscally irresponsible.

Republicans pretend they could never agree to a clean lift of the debt ceiling, even though they’ve done so numerous times in the past when they controlled all branches of government.

And while rumor has it that a deal may be in the works by the end of the day today, let’s be clear that this was a manufactured crisis from the start.

Donald Trump increased the US deficit by $8 trillion with the tax cuts he enacted during his four years. Now this radical GOP has been threatening for weeks to default on our country’s financial obligations and leave regular Americans stuck with the bill.

Let’s call it what it is – the biggest dine-n-dash in history.

Democrats in Congress want to invest public money with the people who need it – making sure that Americans have healthcare, jobs, stable housing, and food.

This is exactly what my campaign is about. I believe that government should be something Americans can believe in and trust – a vehicle for support and change that leaves no one behind.

And my opponent? The Republican incumbent Mike Simpson, who has been in office for a quarter-century, is right behind Kevin McCarthy and the rest of the extremist GOP in holding our economy hostage. He is actively supporting efforts to cut the very programs Americans rely on – and paid into(!) – under the guise of reducing the federal deficit.

We’re fighting back! Help me send Mike packing, flip this seat BLUE and win back the House majority next year. Can you pitch in $10, $25, $50 or more today to make sure we can reach every voter in Idaho’s 2nd district?
