John,
Congressional Republicans are not concerned about the national debt. Right now they are fighting to make all of the 2017 Trump-GOP tax cuts for the rich and corporations permanent, and, according to a new report from the Congressional Budget Office, this would ADD $3.5 trillion to the national debt.[1]
That’s why they are demanding $4.2 trillion in cuts to critical services―to pay for more tax cuts for their wealthy campaign contributors.
Fight back against Republican hostage taking! Help us bring our latest infographic to voters across the country and demand Congress hold a clean debt-ceiling vote without cuts to critical services. Donate today.
If Republicans are successful in making the Trump tax cuts permanent, households with incomes over $4.5 million would get an average tax cut of $175,000 in the first year alone. Those with incomes over $1 million would get a nearly $50,000 tax cut. Meanwhile, 102 million households making less than $75,000 a year would get an average tax cut of just $330 a year―less than a dollar a day![2]

John,
Congressional Republicans are working on two tracks:
One is to cut $4.2 trillion in critical services from working families―including healthcare, food assistance, housing, education, and much more.[1]
The other track is to cut taxes for the rich and corporations by making all of the Trump-GOP tax scam permanent. A recent report from the Congressional Budget Office shows that permanently extending expired and expiring tax cuts in the 2017 Trump-GOP tax law would add at least $3.5 trillion to the national debt over the next decade.
Every year, Congressional Republicans feign concern over the national debt. But their real reason for cutting trillions of dollars in critical services is to pay for massive tax cuts for the rich and powerful―whether it was the George W. Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 that squandered surpluses of the Clinton administration, or the Trump tax cuts of 2017 that are already forecast to add $1.7 trillion to our national debt.
We’re fighting back against Republican attempts to hold our economy hostage in order to achieve their ultimate goal of more tax cuts for their wealthy campaign contributors.
Hold congressional Republicans accountable by helping bring our latest infographic to voters across the country. Pitch in now!
Our latest reporting shows that the House-passed bill that cuts trillions of dollars in critical services is not intended to reduce the deficit. That’s simply a smoke screen to achieve their ultimate goal of making the Trump-GOP tax cuts for the rich and corporations permanent.
The Republican budget would threaten the health coverage of 21 million people, strip 1.7 million women and children of food assistance, raise housing costs for 640,000 vulnerable people, and reduce critical services for veterans, students, seniors, and more.
Congressional Republicans want to eliminate green energy and climate incentives―$570 billion in cuts.
And they want to roll back President Biden’s student education debt forgiveness plan―$460 billion.
Together, we’re reminding the American people that congressional Republicans are not serious about reducing federal deficits. They’re willing to inflict pain on millions of working people, seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans to pay for tax cuts for the rich and corporations.
With a federal default just one week away, rush a donation today to hold congressional Republicans accountable.
