Auburn announces Victory Garden Program City of Auburn, Maine Upcoming Events AUBURN'S NEW VICTORY GARDEN PROGRAM During World War I & World War II, Victory Gardens were vegetable, fruit, and herb gardens planted at homes and in public parks. People were encouraged to plant victory gardens not only to help the war effort, but also as a "morale booster." These gardens were a part of daily life on the home front. The City of Auburn is delighted to announce our new "Victory Garden" program! Auburn residents who wish to produce their own fresh, healthy food can receive vouchers for use at the farm and garden retailers and nurseries listed below. Maximum assistance is $150 per household. Funds can be used for equipment, supplies, or seedlings. The application deadline is August 1!
