Our endorsed candidate Lashrecse Aird is running for Virginia's 13th Senate District – this is arguably the most consequential race happening in Virginia this year. Let us explain why:

Lashrecse is running against the incumbent for this seat, Joe Morrissey – an extremely controversial and shady politician who has served jail time for reasons we will describe in more detail below.

But the most critical difference between Joe and Lashrecse? He is an anti-abortion “Democrat” likely to vote in line with Republicans on the issue of reproductive healthcare access. With Virginia being the last state with dependable abortion access in the South, we must ensure that Lashrecse wins. Recap on Virginia: Their anti-choice Republican Governor has made it clear that he is ready to sign an abortion ban ASAP. Only two votes can block that from happening. If Lashrecse wins, she will be one of those votes.

Lashrecse is clearly the woman for the job. In 2021, she was named the Virginia Education Association Legislator of the Year because of her leadership in addressing critical issues in the state.

Meanwhile, a recently surfaced video shows her Democratic primary opponent, Morrissey (the man who currently serves in this state senate seat), stating: “I’m proud to vote pro-life and I will side with Republicans in the future on this issue.”

In August of 2013, Police found Morrissey, who was 56 years old, in his home with a 17-year-old girl who had been working as an employee at his law office. According to an article in the Daily Press from the time of his charges, “he accepted a misdemeanor conviction to avoid trial on charges of taking ‘indecent liberties’ with a 17-year-old, child pornography, and soliciting a minor — felonies that could have put him in prison for decades and caused an automatic loss of his legislative position.”

We cannot afford to send this anti-choice “Democrat” criminal to office. With the new abortion ban in North Carolina and the impending 6-week ban in South Carolina, millions of people are relying on Virginia to remain an abortion access safe haven.

Lashrecse’s primary election is less than one month away, so we need to act quickly.
