Friend,
Title 42, a policy implemented by the Trump Administration in 2020 to block migrants from seeking asylum under the pretense of the COVID-19 pandemic, officially ended a couple of weeks ago.
Life post-Title 42 has been relatively calm at our Southern Border - contrary to predictions pushed by right-wing observers rooting for chaos.
More importantly, the last week has shown that the U.S. CAN manage this moment, and that we CAN do it in a manner that is both orderly and fair. We have managed an increase in migrants at the border in the past, and while our processing system is imperfect, we’ve shown we can welcome vulnerable people from Ukraine and other regions facing crisis.
The next step as asylum seekers are processed and allowed to enter the United States is to welcome them into our communities and support them in rebuilding their lives.
