Ofgem, the energy regulator, has just announced a new cap for energy bills. While this does mean that for some bills will go down, we will still be paying double than before costs started to soar.
And this announcement does nothing to deal with the mountain of debt that has built up during the crisis. Millions of us up and down the UK are now weighed down by £2.4 billion of energy debt.
Since we launched our campaign to End Energy Debt, thousands of you have taken action. It’s absolutely critical we demand the government deal with this crisis and not forget the millions of people struggling with energy debt.
Will you add your name to our petition to End Energy Debt?
It’s a scandal that while big companies like Shell are recording the highest profits in their 115-year history, while millions of people across the UK have been plunged into debt.
We want to see these big companies taxed to help pay off the debts that have build up as a result of the massive surge in energy prices we’ve seen over the last year.
Despite today’s announcement people are finding it harder and harder to cope as the crisis continues. It’s time the government stepped up to the plate and helped people get out of debt.
