On the House Judiciary Committee, I have a front row seat to Jim Jordan’s pet project of bending government power to right wing extremists — right now that means using his subpoena power to enable censorship in our schools.

As a lifelong education advocate and former school board president, I refuse to stand idly by as right wing activists and lawmakers perpetuate harm on our kids and communities. Teachers, faculty, and parents don’t need the federal government censoring fact-based curriculum. Students and parents don’t need elected officials bullying trans kids with extreme legislation that even some Republican Governors have banned.

When I spend time listening to teachers, parents, and students, it is clear what they DO need:

🍎 Resources to hire and retain teachers, guidance counselors, and mental health professionals – and pay them what they’re worth

🍎 Repairs to crumbling school buildings and infrastructure

🍎 Funding for after-school programs and extracurricular activities for students

🍎 High-quality, healthy foods for students to eat at school

And they certainly don’t need Jim Jordan and other extremists wasting time and money at the expense of our students by codifying misinformation and division.
