DeSantis signed an extreme anti-immigrant bill attacking our freedom to move with dignity — including making it a crime to drive into Florida with someone who is undocumented, invalidating out-of-state driver’s licenses for undocumented people, and infringing on people’s right to work by enforcing the flawed E-Verify system.
No matter which far-right candidate wins the Republican nomination, they will pose a threat to immigrant communities.
It can be demoralizing to see politicians build their brand by trying to divide us. But we cannot look away — and the work to keep them far away from higher office starts now.
In last year’s midterm elections, we contacted more than 2 million Latinx, young, and infrequent voters to ensure they made their voices heard. We’ll need to multiply our civic engagement work before 2024 if we want to keep harmful candidates like DeSantis out of the White House.
