The provincial government is launching a new help line, specifically designed for paramedics and other first responders as a non-crisis mental health support staffed by other first responders who can relate to and have lived experiences.

Parksville helicopter company wins $544 million B.C. air ambulance contract

A helicopter firm in Parksville has landed a major contract to help upgrade and operate B.C.’s air ambulance fleet.
Ascent Helicopters was awarded the $554.4 million contract to supply new aircraft to BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) to deliver helicopter emergency medical services.

Chatham-Kent paramedics on strike

A statement from Medavie Health Services, which Chatham-Kent EMS is part of, states a vote in favour of a strike took place during a membership meeting with Services Employees Internation Union (SEIU) Local 1.

Represented by Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Healthcare, EMS paramedics voted 97 per cent in favour of strike action last month. Employed by Medavie Health Services, the union members’ last contract expired on Dec. 31, 2022.

UCP says they've 'drastically' improved Emergency Medical Services wait times

“In 2019, the UCP government inherited a broken, bloated, and bureaucratic health system that was failing Albertans. In response to this crisis, we streamlined resources to the front lines, increased health spending by over $2 billion, and added 700 physicians and nearly 6,000 staff in AHS, including 1,800 registered nurses and 300 paramedics. In 2022 alone, we added 254 physicians and 800 nursing staff,” said Highwood UCP candidate RJ Sigurdson in a statement recently.
