📢 Everyone should be able to access substance use treatment or mental health services if they need it. Unfortunately, that's not always the case. You can help.

Take Action: Better Mental Health Care for Americans Act

What are the barriers? – Despite record numbers of people struggling with mental health and substance use disorders, very few receive treatment due to access and affordability barriers. Without adequate insurance coverage, care is often too expensive. Behavioral health care is often separate from the rest of health care, limiting access and worsening stigma. There is a shortage of behavioral health care providers, exacerbated by low reimbursement rates. Even when providers are available, provider directories are often inaccurate, making care difficult to find.

How can you help? – Send a letter to your senators urging them to support the Better Mental Health Care for Americans Act. It would extend parity requirements (which require insurance plans to cover behavioral health care in the same way they cover physical health care) to Medicare and Medicaid, ensure accurate provider directories in Medicare Advantage plans, increase reimbursement rates, and promote integrated care.

A Message on Protecting Young People's Mental Health

The Partnership's Linda Richter, Vice President of Prevention Research and Analysis, shares her perspective on what steps we can take to help protect young people's mental health and wellness by limiting exposure and access to substances.

"Sometimes it seems that we’re doing all we can to sabotage our own efforts to reverse the nation’s mental health and drug crises, which disproportionately affect children, teens, and young adults."

The statistics are jarring – 20 million Americans in need of treatment, there were over 100,000 overdose deaths in the last year – and we’ve heard the tragic stories of loss. Now it's time to take action.

We have big plans for 2023 – we're raising $1,000,000 so more families can access urgently needed services at no cost. By starting a fundraiser, you will help more families get the care and tools they need in their most difficult time.
