Next week I'll be spending some time with those who've served and joining my community to honor the men and women who've sacrificed for our country. This week, I'm making sure we uphold our commitments to everyone who puts on the uniform.
I'm proposing a first-of-its-kind, 21st century Veterans' Bill of Rights in the Nassau County Legislature to make sure all those who serve the United States get what they need once they come home.
This bill will help us identify where we should invest our public dollars to be as helpful to the veteran community as possible and builds on the rights that ought be afforded to all honorably discharged servicemen and women, including:
*
The
right
to
dignified
housing
*
The
right
to
gainful
employment
*
The
right
to
be
protected
from
discrimination
*
The
right
to
be
supported
in
the
community,
such
as
through
local
VFW
and
American
Legion
outposts
Finally, Nassau County is going to codify our responsibilities and obligations to veterans into law and help make the lives of local folks here on Long Island a little more supported, secure, and prosperous than they were before.

It's been a true honor to get to know so many veterans and their families over the past decade in public service and work on veteran's issues as a local legislator right here in my hometown.
Thank you to everybody out there who has served and I hope you all have a blessed and happy Memorial Day with your friends and family.
