Dear John
With the world facing a mounting climate emergency, the last thing we need is a polluting new coal mine in Whitehaven, Cumbria.
We’ve been fighting the mine since 2017. And last week we got the news that the High Court will hear our legal challenge after all.
It’s brilliant news. With the help of generous supporters, we’ll now have the chance to stand up for the climate and local communities over a 3-day hearing later this year.
Until then the Whitehaven coal mine remains a terrifying threat to people and planet. We’ll give everything we’ve got to this challenge and our campaign to end the era of fossil fuels – but we can’t do it without you.
If you can, will you support our campaign with a donation?

I hope you’re as thrilled as I am that we can take our case to the next stage.
Ministers should make decisions in the long-term interests of people and the planet. That’s why this case is so crucial.
We believe the government acted unlawfully when it decided to green-light the mine.
Coal mining isn’t the answer to our problems. The mine won’t reduce coal imports. Or create long-lasting local jobs. But it will irreversibly harm our planet.
With your help, our legal team will fight the decision in court. And our campaigners will carry on supporting communities in West Cumbria – local people who deserve far better than this unnecessary mine.
So if you can, will you support our campaign with a donation?

As always, we appreciate anything you’re able to give. But we understand if you’re not in a position to donate or start a monthly gift right now. The cost-of-living crisis is affecting all of us.
Thank you so much for everything you do.
All the best,
Niall Toru
