The Scalise Capitol Report

President Trump has been rightfully acquitted

This week, the Senate voted to acquit President Trump, finally allowing our country to move on from Speaker Pelosi’s impeachment sham. Impeachment, as a constitutional tool to address wrongdoing, has been irreparably cheapened by her antics and partisanship. I was proud to stand with my Republican colleagues against this shameless harassment and I look forward to continuing our work with President Trump to deliver results for American families and build a brighter future for America.

Putting an end to out of control robocalls

Millions of families across America have been affected by unlawful robocalls, which is why I proudly voted to support the TRACED Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at stopping scam robocalls that President Trump signed into law at the end of 2019.

Not only are these calls a nuisance, they are often perpetrated by criminals who are willfully ignoring the law in an attempt to defraud American families. This bill requires telephone carriers to verify calls, and empowers people with updated technology to block calls from scam artists, all at no additional cost to consumers. The bill also gives law enforcement and the FCC the tools needed to quickly pursue robocall scammers.

Lowering prescription drug costs

Lowering prescription drug prices is a top priority for American families. Republicans and Democrats worked together to pass a bipartisan prescription drug pricing bill unanimously out of committee, but Speaker Pelosi has refused to bring this bill to the House Floor. I will continue to call on the Speaker to bring this bill to the Floor without delay.

The bill I co-sponsored, "H.R. 19, the Lower Costs, More Cures Act," includes 36 common-sense provisions that passed out of committee unanimously with bipartisan support. H.R. 19 would:

·   Reduce out-of-pocket spending on prescription drugs.

·
   Promote low-cost options for patients.

·   Encourage innovation of groundbreaking new cures.

·   Make prescription drugs more affordable, including some of the most prescribed drugs like insulin.

·   End “pay-to-delay” agreements in which brand name pharmaceutical companies pay generic drug companies to keep generics off the market. Ending this practice would help to bring more affordable generic options to the pharmacy.

Together, we can lower drug prices for the American people, and I will continue calling on Speaker Pelosi to bring H.R. 19 to the House Floor for a vote so it can be sent to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law.

The Great American Comeback

President Trump delivered a message of relentless optimism and unapologetic strength during his State of the Union address. Our economy, once struggling, is now providing opportunities for hard-working families. Our military, after suffering from years of neglect, is being rebuilt. Our southern border, once porous, is now secure. Our trade deals, outdated and unfair, have been modernized and improved.
